Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Jamil Khir Baharom and two others today filed an application to set aside an application by opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim in the Syariah Appellate Court to review a ruling that Jamil Khir and the two others need not get leave to hear an application relating to his ‘qazaf’ case involving his former personal aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan.  

Jamil Khir, Federal Territory Syariah chief prosecutor Shamsuddin Hussain and Federal Territory Islamic Affairs Department director Che Mat Che Ali filed the application through lawyers Roslizam Rahim and Abdul Halim Bahari at the Syariah High Court registry through Messrs Nailah Ramli & Partners.  

They named Anwar as the respondent in the application.

They filed the application to set aside Anwar’s review application in the Syariah Appellate Court which had dismissed the application by his counsel Kamar Ainiah Kamaruzaman for Jamil Khir, Shamsuddin and Che Mat to file an application for leave before the hearing to set aside Anwar’s notice of appeal.

On Jan 30, a panel of judges comprising Zohdi Toha, Aidi Moktar and Hussin Hasan said it was irrelevant and of no use for Jamil Khir and the two other respondents to apply for leave before the hearing to set aside Anwar’s notice of appeal.

Meanwhile, Anwar’s counsel Dorina Abdullah, when approached by reporters, said she would file an affidavit in reply on May 24.
