A 22-year-old university undergraduate who had allegedly posted his Facebook supporting the idea that all policemen be killed, was today arrested by the police upon his arrival at the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters.

Khalid Ismath had in his Facebook posting earlier this week said, “I would agree if all the policemen be killed because of the way they have treated the rakyat (during Bersih 3.0).

“So every time we hold demonstration, there is no more need to negotiate with the police again. We will fight on.”

NONE Khalid's family believes the arrest is linked to the posting.

However the police have not disclosed the reasons for Khalid's ( left ) detention.

Critics have noted unprecedented violence against protestors at the Bersih 3.0 rally last Saturday, that saw numerous reports of police brutality that the authorities are denying.

The student was summoned to the police station to have his statement taken, and was accompanied by his parents, close kin, and student activists.

The Kumpulan Aktivis Mahasiswa Independent (Kami) leader was duly arrested upon arrival at 10am, to protests from his lawyer.

According to his father Ismath Mohd Habib, the police who came to their house in Klang yesterday did not mention any intention to arrest Khalid.

"My son is not a 'mat rempit' or a criminal. What basis do they have for arresting him?" he said.

Khalid's sister Anisa Ismath meanwhile claimed that Khalid's Facebook account had been hacked.

"We the family members did not know about this posting. The account must have been hijacked by someone," she said.

Khalid was held over an hour and then transferred to Cheras district headquarters at 11.30am for further investigation.

Police want clothes that Khalid wore

           

Anisa, when contacted by Malaysiakini late this evening, said the police have not disclosed the grounds of Khalid’s arrest, much to the chagrin of family members.

She said the investigating official (IO) had instructed the family to go back to Klang in the afternoon and get the clothes that Khalid wore during Bersih 3.0  rally.

However, a Malaysiakini photo taken on the day shows Khalid donning a different colour top the real khalid ismath in bersih 3.0 rally ( photo below ).

"When we asked the IO what Khalid was charged under, he refused to tell us. He just asked us to be patient,” said Anisa.

"But we understand that the police will get a court order tomorrow to extend his remand."

When asked why the family had earlier presumed that the investigation was over the Facebook postings, she said the police who came to their house yesterday told them so.

Meanwhile, some 20 friends and supporters of Khalid held a candlelight vigil in front of the Dang Wangi police station tonight.

Brandishing banners that read ‘Police Punch Khalid's Mother’, ‘Students not Gangsters’, ‘We are all Khalid Ismaths’, the group demanded the police to release him immediately.

"The police has no ground to arrest him. We urge the police to free him before the people rise up again against them," said AMK leader Rozan Azen Mat Rasip.
