Families of former Ladang Bukit Jalil estate workers called off their "occupation" of the Prime Minister's Office after they were promised a meeting with the premier.

After spending almost two days outside the building, the 41 members of the group were given an official letter at 5.30pm yesterday, stating that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak will meet them at an unspecified date.

NONE The meeting was agreed after Najib's special officer Ravin Ponniah met the group yesterday morning.

However, the letter does not address the protesters' demand for four acres of land for their housing.

The affected families are descendants of rubber plantation workers and have been facing eviction threats from Kuala Lumpur City Hall for several years now.

This follows the staggered sale of the land on which they reside in Bukit Jalil by the government to private developers.

The group have rejected offers for low-cost flats as compensation for their eviction.
