No political party in M'sia free from nepotism

YOURSAY 'But family members in the opposition often pay a high price, while those in the government lead privileged lives.'

MCA whips 'dynastic' Pakatan

your say Onyourtoes: MCA vice-president Chor Chee Heung, on the surface it would appear that what you said has a ring of truth to it - there are many fathers, husbands, wives and sons relationships in Pakatan Rakyat.

But no one can deny that indulging in opposition politics can mean a long journey of sacrifice, misery and imprisonment.

For sure, many in MCA today would not be able to stomach the sacrifices many in the opposition have made.

Family members came naturally to provide support for the causes fought by the opposition. This is unlike BN which, essentially, is all about inheriting the benefits.

Just look at the goodies that were passed down on the BN side and compare with the imprisonment and harsh treatment children of opposition leaders often received.

RKR: Chor, no political party in Malaysia is free of nepotism. You should think before you talk.

Former prime ministers Abdul Razak, Hussein Onn, Dr Mahathir Mohamad, and Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, and other BN leaders like Ling Liong Sik, S Samy Vellu, Chua Soi Lek, and Lim Keng Yaik are all guilty of building political dynasties.

YF: Indeed, what is wrong with that? If the family members are for justice and fairness then why not? Look at Burmese opposition politician Aung San Suu Kyi, is it wrong for her to be in politics like her father?

It goes to show how silly Chor's mindset is that he is unable to discern right from wrong. That explains why MCA have incompetent leaders who cannot think straight anymore but are mere goons for Umno. MCA is finished.

Louis: It is a losing business for Pakatan leaders to follow the fathers' footsteps. Lim Kit Siang's son Lim Guan Eng had to go to jail and lost his rice bowl as a professional accountant.

Karpal Singh's son Gobind would have made more money if he spent more time in his law firm.

Anwar Ibrahim's daughter Nurul Izzah would have been CEO of a company by now, instead of earning just a few thousand ringgit as an MP and subjecting herself to Umno's despicable ridicule.

These are leaders who really want a better future for our children. But on the other hand, children of MCA and Umno leaders are are already multi-millionaires even before joining politics. What more, if they become an elected representative.

Quigonbond: MCA made a wrong comparison to begin with. Why compare us with North Korea when we have a closer neighbour to compare with, in Singapore?

Quite honestly, if we can even get to where Singapore is today, I'd be very happy and content. But we're far from it.

There is nothing's wrong with dynastic politics if every successor got there the hard way, and not be given their positions on a silver platter.

It's at least better than BN's kleptocratic dynastic politics with positions served because you're son of some past great, even if you don't make the cut yourself.

Cantabrigian: What about Onn Jaafar, Hussein Onn and Hishammuddin Hussein Onn? Mahathir Mohamad and Mukhriz Mahathir? How about Abdul Razak and Najib Razak?

Remember Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and his son-in-law Khairy Jamaluddin? Syed Jaafar Albar and Syed Hamid Albar?

When Tunku Abdul Rahman became the first prime minister of Malaysia, his nephew Tuanku Abdul Rahman was the first Agong.

Umno has been doing it for ages, so why only now MCA is barking?

Ex-Wfw: I think Chor is sending a message to his boss; Dr Chua Soi Lek's son has been made a deputy minister by MCA's delegates - or was he appointed by the president?

I believe whether it is Lim Guan Eng or Nurul, or Karpal's sons, they are good enough to earn a good income based on their calibre.

At the moment, the most important issue is the wantonness of the current leaders at so many levels that the nation is just rolling down the slope to Zimbabwe.

Good Men: Dynastic? To be in opposition for what? Only thing you get in opposition is hard work and having to face the full force the government.

BN and Umno agencies are against you, while you try and fight for the people and the country. There's also the ISA and jail.

So create a dynasty for your children after you have been jailed under ISA, they can follow in your footsteps and be jailed too.

The only reason why so many children follow in the parents' footsteps in the opposition is because they have absorbed the noble values and sense of justice from their parents.

And also, most other people steer well clear of joining the opposition because they are so scared of the consequences.
