Deputy BN chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin today said that the coalition has nothing to do with the revival of a 17-year-old graft probe against PKR deputy chief Azmin Ali.

Speaking to reporters, he said that the decision to re-open the case was made entirely by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

"(BN) do not get involved with MACC's decisions. It is an independent body and can re-open any file it wants," he said.

Besides, he said, it was MACC itself who announced that they are probing the matter again.

"The announcement was not made by a politician," he said.

He was commenting on Azmin's statement that the ongoing probe is " political persecution ".

The case against Azmin was first opened in 1995, when he was acting as private secretary to then deputy prime minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Then Anti-Corruption Agency chief Shafee Yahya recently said that the agency found insufficient evidence of corruption, but recommended disciplinary action against Azmin as the latter was living beyond his means.
