Police have detained a 28-year-old mechanic for allegedly breaking into the house of the mother of Balik Pulau MP Yusmadi Yusoff on July 11.
South West District Police chief Supt Hatta Md Zin said the mechanic, who lived in the same housing area in Jalan Baru, Balik Pulau in George Town, was arrested at noon yesterday.
“He was sleeping in a hammock near his house,” he told reporters today.
He said police found a gold necklace, RM950, two mobile phones and nine Eramin drug pills at the house.
The man was remanded for three days to facilitate investigation, he said.
On July 11, the MP’s mother, Fatimah Ahmad, 73, lost about RM30,000 worth of jewellery and cash after a masked man broke into her house at about 4am. She was also punched in the left eye.
