Malay daily Berita Harian today quoted Malaysian Muslim Consumers Association secretary-general Ma’amor Osman as saying that the association has collected more than 100,000 signatures since May 25 to support the call.
The association is seeking an audience with Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah to submit its request.
He said royal intervention is necessary after the Pakatan Rakyat state government refused to approve the federal government’s proposal to construct the Langat 2 water treatment plant.
Ma’amor stressed that the water treatment plant is important to avoid a water supply crisis in 2014, and the government can save on costs if the construction is commenced earlier as prices of building materials are on the rise.
