Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Mohd Nazri Abdul Aziz confirmed that suggestions had been made at the Aug 15 cabinet meeting to reprimand three key BN leaders for their open objection to Section 114A of the Evidence Act 1950.

However, the cabinet meeting yesterday decided not to accept these suggestions.

The trio are Deputy Higher Education Minister Saifuddin Abdullah, Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Gan Ping Sieu and Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin.

NONE The Chinese newspaper Oriental Daily News quoted Nazri ( right ) as saying that the suggestions were raised at the cabinet meeting two weeks ago chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin in place of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, who was abroad.

"The prime minister was not around then. So the cabinet meeting today (Wednesday) chaired by the prime minister discussed this issue again and decided not to take further action," he told the daily.

Yesterday Malaysiakini  had reported that the cabinet on Aug 15 had accepted the suggestion to reprimand the trio.

khairy jamaluddin bn youth volunteers 240612 According to government sources, it was suggested that the premier or his deputy summon the two deputy ministers and deliver  a warning  because their actions were contrary to the government stance, while Nazri meet the trio to hear their views, and provide them with the government's explanation.

However, both Khairy ( left) and Nazri later denied it.

"No reprimand at all so maybe your information is not entirely accurate or something happened today," Khairy had told Malaysiakini yesterday, referring to that morning's cabinet meeting.

Yesterday he met with Nazri and attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail to present his objections to the controversial amendment but was told that the government is firm on its stance.
