Perak DAP chief Ngeh Koo Ham, who has drawn flak from both sides of the political divide over his Twitter message, has clarified that he is not anti-Islam.

“Don't make me as if I'm anti-Islam,” he was quoted as saying by Sinar Harian .

NONE He told the Malay daily that the message posted on his Twitter account yesterday was not meant to insult Muslims' objection against the controversial American film ‘Innocence of Muslims’ allegedly produced by Sam Bacile.

Instead, he wanted the public to rethink whether it is worth the effort to spend time and energy to protest the film.

“Honestly I myself condemn the distribution of this video. What I want to say was that whether the reactions and objections shown worldwide are balanced to protest against a man.

“It was just a question, because for me, the time and energy gathered worldwide actually can be used for other things that are more beneficial,” he said, referring to the worldwide protest including the murder of American ambassador to Libya, Christopher Stevens, in Benghazi recently.

'I have no objection'

On the proposal to have PAS Youth and Umno Youth in a joint demonstration in front of the US embassy in Kuala Lumpur this Friday, Ngeh said he respects it.

“If they feel that it is needed, we respect the action. I don't have any objection if they want to unite for Islam”.

NONE Yesterday the Beruas MP, in his Twitter account, has questioned Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar's call for Muslims to protest against Bacile.

“Khairy wants Muslims (to) protest against Sam Bacile. For Islam or for his political gains? Are Muslims wasting too much time and energy on this?”

The message sparked an uproar, inviting criticism from politicians of both ruling and opposition parties including Khairy, Perak Menteri Besar Zambry Abdul Kadir and PAS Youth chief Nasrudin Hassan.

Some Muslim NGOs will also lodge police reports against Ngeh today.
