The government will need to use elements of popular culture like the viral ‘ Gangnam style’ and ‘ Kolaveri ’ songs to reach out to youths, said Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department SK Devamany.

NONE " Gangnam (style) and Kolaveri are more popular then (our national song) Negaraku .

"That's why the 1M4U song has a distinctive beat," Devamany ( left ) said.

The unique beat he hoped will help the government to connect with youths who, he said, are far removed from the concerns of the country.

"The youths today are hedonistic, they follow a pleasure culture, with no emotional connection to the rakyat," he claimed.

In order to reach them, he posited that the government needs to use such methods.

He explained that 1M4U which is a corporation limited by guarantee, was formed to try and convey the message of 1Malaysia to youths, literally telling them “1Malaysia is for you”.

However, Devamany said that as of now, 1M4U is still new and its success in the mission cannot yet be clearly gauged.

The government has been active both via large scale events and using the online platform to reach out to youths and bridge the disconnect between the leadership and the younger generation.

1M4U is the latest in the government’s efforts to realise this.
