The management of the iconic Suria Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC) has stopped the media from recording the V-neck gathering held at its premises.

NONE This happened when two security personnel approached several members of the media, who were seen recording the gathering, to prevent the latter from doing so.

The event has attracted local and foreign media coverage, however, the security staff said the “big cameras” used by the media required permit from the management before recording is allowed.

The V-neck Day was held yesterday following the issuance of a controversial guideline to identify gay and lesbians in schools. The gathering started off at 5pm and was attended by 10 people.

Organiser, Adam Shariman, 19, said he had his friends were escorted to the security management's office at 5.45pm to discuss the matter.

Adam claims he came on his own and did not represent any non-governmental organisation.

After 15 minutes, Adam and his friend informed that KLCC security supervisor Ibrahim Omar has asked that media personnel apply for a permit if they want to make recordings.

NONE According to Adam further, the supervisor said they also do not permit mainstream media to film as they do not know what sort of news would come out.

“If Utusan (Malaysia) , Berita Harian we would know what they will write but the other media, we do not know as they may spin. Hence to take pictures is all right but to record video you would have to obtain a permit. That is what the security supervisor told us,” Adam said when met by Malaysiakini .

Adam added the security personnel also informed them that the KLCC park is private property under KLCC and not a public space.

Adam explained the purpose of the V-neck Day is to create awareness that it is improper to discriminate against someone based on what they wear.
