Activist shocked by media 'facilities' in Parliament

An activist involved in the ‘Save Jalan Sultan’ movement has encouraged journalists covering Parliament to “picket for better working conditions”.
During a visit yesterday to submit a memorandum, Defend Our Heritage Association head Ishak Surin

expressed shock that reporters had to sit on the floor for the press conference.
"This should not happen. Why is it that we (activists) are sitting on chairs, but journalists are sitting on the floor? Malaysian culture does not (show) disrespect like this," he remarked.
"Which country (would make) its reporters sit on the ground while reporting in Parliament?"
Suggesting that Parliament provides some chairs, he also suggested that journalists pursue the matter with Mohd Nazri Abdul Aziz, the minister in the Prime Minister’s Department.
"I will join you in the picket, if you organise one," he said with a smile.
Parliament House is currently being renovated, leading to the Dewan Rakyat being temporarily hosted at an adjacent but smaller complex.
Journalists were initially left working on the floor. However, in June, they submitted a memorandum to Nazri, complaining about the poor working conditions .
Nazri promised to look into the matter and made good on his word. Tables and chairs have been provided for the current sitting which began on Sept 24.
However, there were no changes to the press conference area, which remains a tight squeeze for those covering Parliament.
