Selangor DAP today revealed documents to shred Deputy Education Minister Wee Ka Siong's accusation that the Selangor government is holding up approval for the SJK (C) Tun Tan Siew Sin until a RM2 million pedestrian bridge is built outside.

According to the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) letter to the chairperson of the school board Lim Kim Hwi, Lau said that the local government was asking the school to build security infrastructures such as speed table (a traffic calming device designed as a long speed hump with a flat section in the middle), speed breaker, pedestrian traffic light systems "or" (atau) a pedestrian bridge.

He explained that the Malay word "atau" stated on the letter means that the pedestrian bridge is one of the options, among the conditions laid out for the school to fulfill.

NONE "The other (MPSJ) council members and I don't understand, Wee, as the deputy education minister as well as an engineer and a doctorate degree holder, how come he doesn't know the meaning of ‘atau'? He really doesn't know?" he said at a press conference today.

Lau ( right in photo ) noted that the letter does not mention the cost of the bridge, claimed to be RM2 million.

Stirrring up non-existent issue

"Maybe this is the so-called ‘MCA price', which is more expensive than a bungalow," he quipped.

Lau also showed Lim's written reply with a statutory declaration attached, to further prove that Wee's accusation was wrong.

According to the letter, the school only promised to build an interlocking walkway with railing, "speed breaker", pedestrian traffic light systems and a bus stop, with no mention of the pedestrian bridge.

"So we want to ask, why does Wee still want to continue stirring up this pedestrian bridge issue? This issue doesn't exist any more, or so to speak never existed," he added.

Three days ago, Wee accused the Selangor government in Parliament of holding up approval of the school with the RM2 million pedestrian bridge.

This led the PAS Kota Raja MP Siti Mariah Mahmud to register a protest, stressing that the charge was not true.
