“There’s a picture of a cow and the words drive carefully underneath it. But this sign is put up at a place where no one rears cows.
“It is as they are saying the driver is the cow. Cow, drive carefully,” jibed Mohamad Aziz (BN-Seri Gading).
He was interjecting during the winding up for the Works Ministry during the policy stage of 2013 Budget debate in the Dewan Rakyat by its minister, Shaziman Mansur, today.
The minister at first questioned if such signs are put up on highways as he only knew of them being installed on village and rural roads where livestock are prevalent.
Mohsin Fadzli Samsuri (Independent-Bagan Serai) and Sim Tong Him (DAP-Kota Melaka) then stood up in support of Mohamad, insisting that they, too, have seen such signs on highways.
Shaziman finally said that he will talk to the authorities concerned and will look into the matter.
Before that, Mohamad Aziz repeated his stand that the Automated Enforcement System (AES) for traffic offences should be shelved for now, as in its current form it may be a burden to the rakyat, instead of the accident-reducing boon it was intended to be.
He recounted how AES cameras were positioned at odd areas where the speed limit is inexplicably low amidst other stretches where the speed is higher, accusing that there appears to be elements of entrapment involved.
The AES courted controversy after the opposition and backbenchers protested against it for being a burden to the rakyat as it seem to be set up more for entrapment.
