Police revealed last Tuesday that they are mulling the use malodorants in place of irritants to be sprayed at protesters using water cannons, with hopes it would effectively send them home.

"We are thinking that as a deterrent measure, we may use very smelly (chemicals) that people don't like.

"We would shoot, they (protesters) would stink; they can't even visit a shopping complex later, so they would go home," said police observer ACP Jamaluddin Abdul Rahman.

Here's what social media had to say about that very stinky solution:

Tan Shiaw Uen: See! These are the culprits that make shopping malls and mamak stalls lose businesses.

Aarif Iman Abdullah: Why don't you just let them have peaceful demonstrations? It saves you a whole lot of money, and avoid people suspecting that some crony is making a fast buck peddling the chemical?

Try using (your) brain instead of chemicals, just for once.

Clement Josos: Wouldn't the roads, fields, square, etc, would stink too after that? Yeah, right. Brilliant.

Nicholas Chin: This is okay, because whatever crowd control chemical they come up with still won't beat the stink of the rot in Putrajaya.

Ian Tan: ‘Umnodorant'. Every person shot - please hug a police.

Andreas Arphan: Yeah, its very important that protesters not visit shopping centres after running riots with the police.

Jellene Eva: Oh, it's fine. What makes you think we won't go into malls after getting 'umnodorent'ed? We're all for stinking up Malaysia!

DjScratchy Steve: With the amount of demonstrators using public transportation after the events, the whole of Kuala Lumpur will be one stinky city. Indeed, demonstrations should be done near the PM's residence in Putrajaya.

Amy J Delph: They might stink, but then the police wouldn't be too happy to have to arrest them and keep them in the compound, would they?

Or the protesters might just decide to hang out at the police station afterwards. Or how about visit the PM's house or other nice tourist destinations that would drive tourists away?

Leong Peng Kong: If the police use it, get everyone to go into a police station. Let them taste their own medicine.

Abdul Kadir Shaik Othman: I am against any punishment against uncharged, unarmed, innocent members of public.

Mohamed Mekel: Spending money again. Someone sure to make something out of this. "Our culture," so says Ah Jib (PM Najib Razak).

John Ng Mc: They stink, no wonder their thoughts of law enforcement are punitive in nature. The first principle of law enforcement is to keep the peace and not enforce with terror.

Paul Surnapa: Currently this is the best PDRM (Royal Malaysian Police) can do - bully citizens who cannot fight back.

Nigel Lim: Why waste money on rakyat's peaceful demontrations. They should catch those who swindle rakyat's money from the Auditor-General's Report and those who are corrupt. Do the right thing.

Willie Maowong: Just use guns. We the rakyat are the enemy. So kill us. Enough is enough.
