S'gor Umno's response on Klang bridge 'not good'
Selangor MCA chief Donald Lim has ticked off Selangor opposition leader Satim Diman for his response on the BN government's failure to deliver the third Klang bridge, it's 2008 general election pledge.
Selangor MCA chief Donald Lim has ticked off Selangor opposition leader Satim Diman for his response on the BN government's failure to deliver the third Klang bridge, it's 2008 general election pledge.
Asked to respond to his Umno colleague Satim's statement that the BN federal government did not deliver on its promise to build the bridge because the ruling coalition had lost in Selangor, Lim said the statement was "far-fetched".
"His (Satim's) answer is not good," Lim said, but declined to comment further.
Lim ( left ) then went on to attack Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim for only allocating funds to build the third bridge in Klang now, and not when he first came to power.
"Khalid should not build it (bridge) after four years in power. If he built it within two years in power, that's OK," Lim said when contacted by Malaysiakini today.
He dismissed Khalid's announcement earlier this week on the long overdue bridge as "merely to gain publicity" and fish for votes for the next general election.
Similarly, Selangor Umno deputy chief Noh Omar, who is also Agriculture Minister, yesterday slammed Khalid’s announcement, saying it was to deceive the people and divert attention from the unresolved water issue.
However, Lim, who is also deputy finance minister, said that the federal and state governments should sit down and follow up on the bridge issue.
On Monday, Khalid ( right ), while tabling the state's 2013 budget, announced that the Selangor government would allocate RM300 million to realise BN's "unfulfilled promise" of constructing the third Klang bridge.
"I was informed that the earth-breaking ceremony was completed by the previous government a few days before the 12th general election.
"Unfortunately after more than four years, not to say the bridge, even a beam is not seen! Hence in 2013, although we know that bridge construction is the responsibility of federal government, the state government will fund the construction to 'fulfil' the unfulfilled promise of Umno-BN," Khalid had said.
