Several Umno leaders are alleged owners of bungalows in Templer Park, a controversial project, raised by party members at yesterday's state legislative assembly sitting.

Exco member Elizabeth Wong ( below ) told the sitting that she was shocked to find out that bungalow owners include a former minister, an MP and several former state assemblypersons.

NONE "These are among those who took the land to build luxury houses," she said, without specifically naming anyone, according to Selangorku.com , the state government's website.

On Tuesday, The Star reported that there was a plan to build luxury bungalows in Templer Park on steep hillslopes classified as Class 3 and 4.

The project allegedly involved a 12.41ha gated community comprising 60 bungalows, with starting prices at RM4 million per unit.

The same report quoted the Selayang Municipal Council as saying that the project developer had met the requirements and guidelines set by the authorities.

Two decades old story

Meanwhile, Wong also told the assembly that the reports in The Star appear to have confused Taman Templer with the Templer Forest Reserve.

She explained that a portion of the forest reserve area was indeed sold by the state government in 1987 to a private company for a golf course.

NONE "The plan was approved by the state government on July 17, 1999. This story is 20 years old. Taman Templar is no longer a forest reserve.

"Is Umno-BN trying to cloud the eyes of the public by claiming that Pakatan Rakyat is trying to seize a forest reserve? We have never done so.

"The Templar Forest Reserve which spans 853.30ha is still intact and has never been touched since 2008. The state government is committed not to sell it to any developer," she said.
