Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s call for the people not to take the 13th general election (GE13) as an experiment has captured the attention of the editors of Chinese newspapers in the country.

It was evident when the call and the message were spread on the front pages of almost all the Chinese newspapers today.

In fact, they also emphasised Najib’s reminder to the people to make the right choice in GE13 as their decisions would give a long-term impact to their future and the future of their children.

Sin Chew Daily published the message on with headlines ‘Najib: Do not take next GE as experiment’ and ‘Najib: Change of gov’t will get the opposite’, while the Oriental Daily ’s front page read: ‘Najib: I want every vote’.

The newspapers also published the Umno president’s statement on the party’s strategies to win the heart of the people, especially among the young generation who will cast their votes for the first time in the GE13, to ensure a big victory for Barisan Nasional (BN).

Also published in the newspapers was Najib’s photograph holding up the BN flag.

Several columnists also commended Najib’s move to ask for forgiveness for all Umno’s weaknesses when delivering his policy speech at the 2012 Umno general assembly.

Sin Chew Daily deputy editor-in-chief Tay Tian Yan in his column, for example, said it was important for a leader to be able to admit his wrongdoings to get the people’s blessing and to restore their faith in the government leadership.

He said such an act was rare among political party leaders, but Najib had done it and he had also obtained the people’s blessing.

Tay also suggested that if the prime minister were to retain BN’s victory, Najib, as Umno president, should continue making transformation in the party.
