MCA Youth today urged Perak DAP chief Ngeh Koo Ham and his de facto deputy Nga Kor Ming to declare their assets following allegations that the had received gratification from PAS.

In a press release today, MCA youth secretary Chai Kim Sen said Pakatan Rakyat had always challenged BN leaders to publicly declare their assets, thus the duo should start with themselves.

Ngah and Ngeh, who happen to be cousins, were alleged to have received 10,526 hectares of land in Kelantan in exchange for making way for PAS’ Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin to become the Perak menteri besar in 2008.

The allegations first surfaced at the Perak state legislative assembly earlier this month.

Ngeh has clarified that he and Nga, who were had a successfully legal practice before politics, had bought over the company which owned the land in a normal business transaction.

However, Chai said questioned if Ngeh and Nga could have afforded the deal.

“How is it that both Ngeh and Nga can be involve in this land transaction worth RM30 million on their salary as state legislators?

Cronyism charge

“Therefore, since Pakatan Rakyat always claims that politicians should make their assets public, thus both Ngeh and Nga must now prove their innocence by doing so,” he said.

Chia said that the duo were obliged to provide the public with a proper explanation, in particular documents which showed that they were shareholders of the private company that was allegedly “given” the land.

Should there be proof of cronyism, Chai said the duo should resign from the party positions.

Previously, Ngeh clarified that he, Nga and others bought Upayapadu Plantation Sdn Bhd in April through the open market in a deal that even the federal government knew of.

The Kelantan state government also clarified that in 2006 the land was leased to the company, which was then chaired by Wong Yeon Chai, to generate income for the operation of the Kelantan Islamic Foundation.

The state government also furnished documents to prove that the land deal in 2005 was approved and supported by the then-plantation industries and commodities minister Peter Chin Kah Fui and the then-rural and regional development deputy minister Awang Adek Hussin.
