"We (BN) usually operate on consensus concerning seat distribution based on existing quotas (for the component parties) he told reporters in Ipoh today.
He added that the support of the Indian community and MIC for BN should not be viewed lightly and what was important is that the spirit of partnership in BN should be upheld.
MIC was allocated two parliamentary seats in the last general election, Tapah and Sungai Siput.
MIC's M Saravanan won the Tapah seat but its president S Samy Vellu was defeated in Sungai Siput.
The party also lost all the state seats allocated to it, namely Pasir Panjang, Behrang, Sungkai and Hutan Melintang.
