Pakatan supremo Anwar Ibrahim said he had no problem should he run into Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak tomorrow at the United Chinese School Committees Association’s (Dong Zong) Chinese New Year open house.

Both leaders are expected to attend the Dong Zong’s open house tomorrow.

However, according to China Press , Dong Zong has appealed to both Najib and Anwar not to arrive at the same time.

This is to avoid the open house being turned into a political event.

Asked if Najib was to announce that the government would finally recognise the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC), Anwar is unperturbed.

anwar ibrahim at cny open house in batu jinjang selatan 2 "The recognition of UEC is a common policy that we (Pakatan) have approved three years ago... Najib only respond to this issue a month before the election - that's the big difference," he said.

Dong Zong and other Chinese groups have campaigned for years to get government recognition of the UEC examination, a private examination sat for by students in all 60 Chinese independent high schools nationwide.

Despite the UEC being widely accepted as an entrance qualification for universities in Singapore, Australia, China and other countries, the Malaysian government, however, does not.

However, the premier's political secretary Wong Nai Chee said Najib might not announce the recognition of UEC at tomorrow's event.
