Hindraf, Indians not the only ones marginalised

YOURSAY 'The roots of the problems in Malaysia can only be re-engineered by restructuring our existing race-based framework.'

Hindraf is no longer the force they were

your say Malaysian Born: I agree with DAP MP for Ipoh Barat M Kulasegaran to a large extent but he too needs to understand that the problem has reached such levels that it will take a couple of generations of work and assistance before improvement will be evident - longer than the normal political attention span.

In these conditions, it is perhaps a necessary flaw for the proponents of the victims to be bellicose and a little resistant to compromise.

For them, there is no alternative but the long-term view and the realisation that every change or improvement needs to be with deep foundations for fear of it being trivialised and reversed.

Kulasegaran is right that the cause should be about poverty alleviation and not racial, but Indians have been at the back of the bus so long they have exited without anyone knowing.

Anonymous #59082512: Hindraf should look at the bigger picture; there are Malays, Chinese, Dayaks and Kadazans besides Indians who have been marginalised too.

The roots of the problems can only be re-engineered by restructuring our social political platform from the existing race-based framework; this is the only way for Malaysia to move forward in terms of nation building.

Wira: I support Kula's stance and if he were given permission by Pakatan Rakyat to stand in my constituency, I would certainly vote for him in the next general election.

My family and I will never vote anyone who stands for either the racial supremacy or special treatment of his own race, even if that candidate has the blessings of Pakatan.

So Hindraf, if you persist in another race-based policy after 40 years of BN's ‘Never Ending Policy', go get your cookies from Premier Najib Abdul Razak.

We have waited 20 years to see the end of NEP only to see it being hijacked and morphed into another race-based affirmative policy, which is really apartheid in practice. To hell with another race-based policy, Hindraf.

Madcow: For those who wish to continue Umno's divide-and-rule racist policies, please throw your support behind Umno, the mother of racism.

If you cannot accept the fact that for more than 50 years, Indians have been marginalised due to racist policies, feel free to support Umno for the perpetual continuation of its racist policies.

Geronimo: If I were Pakatan leaders, I would not even touch Hindraf with a 10-foot pole. With their current arrogant attitude, can you imagine the damage they could do to Pakatan after the latter have conceded to their demands?

Should those Hindraf members who stood as Pakatan candidates (one of their conditions) win their seats, they will soon start throwing in more demands which Pakatan cannot afford to concede.

They will then decide to walk out of the coalition, thus leaving the door opened for BN to exploit the situation. No, no, no, stay away from Hindraf at all costs.

Temenggong: In this country, Malays champion Malay and Islamic issues, Chinese champion Chinese and Christian issues, but Indians are expected to behave and champion only national issues.

If Pakatan parties had raised Indian issues effectively, then Hindraf wouldn't have arisen.

The existence of Hindraf is an indictment of the failure of MIC and Pakatan parties. Indian needs are specific and peculiar to their community, and Hindraf should not deviate from this position.

When PAS, Perkasa, Dong Zong, Kadazans, Ibans - the beneficiaries of the marginalisation of Indians - raise Indian issues, then Hindraf may consider raising non-race-based issues.

Until such time, there is no use in listening to proven failed leaders, proven because Hindraf exists.

Ipoh2: Racism is an anachronistic and will certainty meet Mr Death within the next few weeks when Malaysians, who have been waiting patiently for 56 years, finally get the opportunity to put the last nail on the coffin of the corrupt-to-the-core Umno-BN regime.

We do not want the Umno-BN regime to exist ever again. They have to be destroyed and annihilated, and made redundant and extinct. No more racism in this country.

That is what DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang has been fighting for all his life. And Malaysians see the silver lining now with the able stewardship of Pakatan by Anwar Ibrahim, Lim Kit Siang and Abdul Hadi Awang.

Think as a Malaysian, speak like a Malaysian and be a Malaysian.

NoBN4me: Yes, Hindraf is no longer the force it was in 2008. The Indians are disillusioned and confused by all the talk and its leaders are splitting, forming their own groups.

A Makkal Sakti party was formed, a Human Rights Party was also formed and many other NGOs were formed, each led by leaders of the 2007-2008 group.

With all these going on, how can you expect the Indian masses to trust anyone of them anymore. The masses are now deciding whether to put their future in the hands of either BN or Pakatan. For them, Hindraf is history.

Pakatan for M'sians, Hindraf for Indians?
