Police in Penang have declared as illegal last Friday's protest over the 'Allah' issue by several non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

George Town OCPD Gan Kong Meng has confirmed receiving reports on the matter from state government representatives and a policeman from the Patani Road station.

Gan said the matter would be investigated under Section 9 (1) of the Peaceful Assembly Act for organising a rally without a police permit.

No arrest has been made yet as police were identifying individuals and groups responsible for the protest.

The protesters hurled abuses at Lim and banged on the locked glass doors of the state government office in Komtar.

The incident also caused a traffic congestion along Penang Road.

The group also protested against PKR vice-president Tian Chua for his alleged statement that Umno was behind the armed crisis in Lahad Datu, Sabah.

They dispersed 20 minutes later, leaving the clock at the door.

On Thursday, another group also held a protest against Lim at Komtar, demanding that he retracts his statement last Christmas that non-Muslims should be allowed the use of the word 'Allah'.
