Negri Sembilan’s Jelebu PAS division has denied a news report saying its members threw eggs at a BN speaker on stage during its ceramah at Felcra Ayer Hitam last Monday.
In denying the Malay daily Utusan Malaysia 's online report, Jelebu PAS deputy chief Nor Hanif Selamat claimed PAS members were the ones targeted in the 9.40pm incident, with firecrackers, bottles, rocks and eggs were thrown their way.
In fact, Nor Hanif said three people attending the Pakatan Rakyat ceramah that took place near the BN event were injured after being struck by several bottles hurled by the BN supporters.
“We did not reciprocate. The situation was tense when the Jelebu chief was speaking. After that, the police asked us to postpone the ceramah.
“They (BN) threw firecrackers, bottles, rocks and eggs. There were two kinds of eggs thrown at us - the normal ones and rotten eggs.
“Only thing is, some did not reach us as they (BN supporters) were 50 metres away from our ceramah site,” Nor Hanif said when contacted by Malaysiakini .
Nor Hanif said his division had lodged a police report on the fracas at the Jempol district headquarters last night.
“On the day of the incident, police were there early and by the time the ceramah began. The first throw (of firecrackers, bottles, stones and eggs) were indeed towards us.
“The police did nothing. So, as the organiser (of the Pakatan ceramah) we lodged a police report last night,” he claimed.
Utusan: Eggs flung at BN’s Sg Lui state rep
Utusan Online had yesterday reported that around 15 PAS supporters flung eggs at BN speaker, Sungai Lui assemblyperson Zainal Abidin Ahmad, and that the eggs stuck his arm.
The report also alleged that Pertubuhan Gerakan Memartabat Perjuangan Negara (GMPN) president Major (Rtd) Razali Zakaria was hit by eggs on his body.
Meanwhile, on Pakatan’s side, Hanif said PKR vice-president Tian Chua (
left
) was supposed to have attended the ceramah, but was replaced by Jingga 13 coordinator Fariz Musa after they received information on the planned “disturbance”.
“I told Tian Chua early not to come. This is because we received information that they (BN supporters) would come down, so due to the concern for Tian Chua’s safety, we canceled his appearance and replaced him with Fariz.”
Also on Monday afternoon, three pro-BN groups threw eggs , sticks and a traffic cone at PKR supporters outside the party headquarters in Petaling Jaya.
