The armed Sulu insurgents who intruded into Kampung Tanduo in Sabah had actually intended to launch their attack as soon as Parliament was dissolved, Utusan Malaysia reported today.
Quoting sources, the Umno-owned Malay daily reported that the intruders, supported by local residents, had wanted to take advantage of the election process to throw the country into chaos.
The sources also claimed that their entry into the country was carried out in stages to throw off the security forces.
"We are grateful that they were detected earlier and efforts to thwart them are under way.”
On Wednesday, Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin accused the opposition of planning to create disorder in the country in order to disrupt the looming general election.
This, Muhyiddin was quoted by Bernama as saying, was deduced from information gathered from “reliable documents”.
He claimed that this was so because Pakatan Rakyat was shaken by the rising support for the ruling BN coalition.
'Anwar planning murder of EC official'
In response to Muhyiddin’s remark, prominent pro-Umno blogger Papagomo claimed that PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim is planning the murder of an Election Commission (EC) official on polling day.
"Among information Gomo obtained from genuine sources is that Anwar plans the murder of the EC official on polling day to create chaos and fighting which will spread and result in the cancellation of the 13th general election," he said in a posting published on his blog.
He cited the violence that happened during the rallies of Bersih 2.0, Bersih 3.0, eve of Merdeka Day and the People’s Uprising Rally to back his claim.
The blogger also accused Anwar of being the mastermind behind the Lahad Datu intrusion.
