The announcement of PAS candidates for Perlis this morning has caused a poser whether the mufti of Perlis, Juanda Jaya, who is favoured by PKR, will contest for the Kangar parliament seat.

Perlis PAS commissioner Hashim Jasin said the party will contest in all three parliamentary seats, as opposed to two in the last election.

He announced the choice of candidates for PAS as; Padang Besar PAS Ulama chief Azamhari Mohamood (Padang Besar), Kangar PAS Kangar committee member, Baharuddin Ahmad (Kangar) and PAS deputy spiritual adviser Haron Din (Arau).

Juanda, who hails from Sarawak, is understood to have agreed to contest against BN and is willing to resign his palace-appointed post as mufti after holding it for four years to run for Parliament.

NONE Pakatan is said to be trying to push Juanda to contest in Perlis along with the renowned and popular Haron Din ( right ), to severely dent BN chances there.

With Hashim's announcement, Juanda's chances to contest in Perlis looks slim and he may contest in another seat, probably in his home state in Sarawak.

PAS is also said to contest in eight state seats, PKR will contest in five state seats and DAP will contest in two in its first attempt in the northernmost state.

Meanwhile Juanda is taking a wait and see approach. "I will comment on the matter when there is a suitable time," he told Malaysiakini.

PAS candidates for state seats are central committee member Mohd Anuar Tahir (Santan), Padang Besar deputy commissioner Wan Kharizal Wan Khazim (Beseri), Election secretary Abd Jamil Kamis (Bintong), Perlis liason secretary Ya'akub Abu Seman (Kayang), Perlis Dewan Ulama chief Idris Yaacob (Pauh), lawyer Zulmi Sabri (Guar Sanji), Perlis deputy commissioner III Rus'sele Eizan (Simpang Empat) and Mohd Shukri Ramli (Sanglang).

Hashim claimed the division of seats has been decided on July 15, 2011 and this was unanimously agreed by the Pakatan Perlis council.

However, a PKR source told Malaysiakini that the division of seats is not finalised.

It is understood that the matter has a high priority at the Pakatan leadership council meeting in Petaling Jaya tomorrow.

In the last general election, PAS won the Sanglang and Simpang Empat state seats.
