'We hope Najib means what he says for once'

YOURSAY ‘Now can you also order your sidekicks to behave themselves during the campaign period leading right up to polling day?'

Najib promises peaceful transition of power

your say Headhunter: This is the most positive statement that PM Najib Razak has ever stated so far. And we Malaysians applaud him for it. Like a true democracy, power transition should be peaceful and smooth.

Najib should also order all the chief ministers not to destroy any government documents like what they did in Selangor when they lost in the 2008 general election. And may the best party win, without cheating please.

CQ Muar: Let's hope we hear it right! Coming from Najib at eleventh hour feeling 'upright and somewhat remorseful' with regard to smooth transformation is indeed a bonus.

I pray he keeps his words, and we will respect him for that. Otherwise, he would be condemned forever. Let's give him the benefit of doubt.

P Dev Anand Pillai: This is, of course, a well-prepared public relations speech. BN is in no way interested in transferring federal power to anyone. They would like to remain in power perpetually.

It is all up to the people now - if they come out in great numbers and vote for the advancement of a two-coalition system, this country will benefit. If they decide not to and stay at home, then they deserve the government they get.

This is the time. We have to make it work this time.

Hacks: Illogical promises. How would he get away for the alleged cover-up of the Mongolian national Altantuya Shaariibuu's murder, the Scorpene submarine scandal and other controversies if the judicial system and enforcement bodies were really clean?

Will he want to go to prison? Definitely not. So if they still can't win after cheating, what else will they do?

Anonymous #67264380: How does the prime minister explain the fact that my daughter is a registered voter without having registered in the first place?

Not to mention that we can't even question the Election Commission's (EC) process. What a farce.

Ksn: This promise coming from the PM, no doubt a caretaker from today onwards, is music to the ears of Malaysians.

Please Najib, instruct the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) to keep the peace - which is their responsibility and duty - from today until the elections are over, regardless of who wins.

Eskay: It's a double-edged speech. Since the EC has so much errors and doubts which are yet to be addressed, and if voters are not convinced by the election results and start questioning, this may be interpreted by BN as opposition supporters trying to create trouble.

Najib has the record of playing with words. Let's hope that he meant what he said at least for once.

Starr: Najib shall be held to every word of his reassurance, and the principle of democracy will be strictly be adhered to.

But words will remain as words until they are practised to the letter. Not only shall the rakyat judge him by his words, but history will be doing so as well.

Mahashitla: Actually, we the rakyat want to see the general election as a five-year nationwide carnival, where both parties are able to hold their ceramahs peacefully, attended by voters and supporters in a holiday-like atmosphere.

And whichever party wins, the losing party will concede defeat graciously and congratulate the winner, just like in the United States.

This is not happening here because we have been ruled by a single party for 56 years and it is using undemocratic means like the Project IC, a tainted electoral roll and an uneven playing field, such as the restrictions in media coverage, etc.

To Umno, it is do or die, and with former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad still around calling the shots, anything could happen as he doesn't want to lose.

As long as Umno-BN continues to rule, we can never get to feel that five-year carnival for each of us to choose our winner, and we must make it happen, sooner rather than later.

Unmasked: Thank you PM, now can you also order your sidekicks to behave themselves during the champaign period leading right up to polling day? Good luck.

Whatsupdude: Najib, at long last you have the guts to dissolve Parliament.

You have created history by being the longest-serving PM without a proper mandate from the people. This will be your last speech as the premier. We, the voters, will make sure of that.

Your next live telecast will be your concession speech on handing over the prime minister's seat to Anwar Ibrahim, and at last you will belong in your rightful place as the leader of the opposition in a new Parliament controlled by Pakatan Rakyat.

The ‘Rahman prophecy' will at last be fulfilled.

Hmmmmmmmm: Najib, this only sensible thing we have heard from you for a very long time. It will be excellent if you actually meant it too. Kudos to your speech writer.

OMG!!: How could he claim the election process is intact when the Election Commission has refused to clean up the many dubious names in the electoral rolls, especially in Sabah, which has so many instant citizens created by former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad and registered as voters as revealed by the royal commission of inquiry (RCI)?

Anonymous_3e46: The Hungry Ghost Festival is a long way away. Make sure that ‘phantoms' do not come out at this time, nor do we want to see ‘aliens' dropping out of nowhere and suddenly appearing on polling day.

Yeow: Winning elections is not about revenge. Good governance must prevail, and the corrupt should be given a fair trial.

Quigonbond: We will hold Najib to his statement about peaceful transition because that's exactly what's going to happen.

Now, we need DPM Muhyiddin Yassin and Mahathir to confirm the same thing.
