If BN head Najib Abdul Razak is not committed to fighting graft, then it is “meaningless” that he has signed the Integrity Pledge for clean polls - so says DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng.

He said Najib and other BN leaders in the caretaker government have yet to publicly declare their assets, practise open competitive tenders and return the use of government vehicles since Parliament was dissolved on April 3.

For example, Najib failed to respond to Sarawak Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud’s refusal to cooperate with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

Taib's labelling of the MACC as "dishonest and naughty” is shocking, said Lim, and his refusal to cooperate is a "serious breach of duty and statutory obligation".

Under Sections 47 and 48 of the MACC Act 2009, such refusal is an offence by any individual who is the subject of investigation. It is punishable by a maximum fine of RM10,000 or imprisonment of two years or both.

He also challenged Najib to adopt six measures toward the goals of good governance:

- Institute public declaration of assets of the prime minister, ministers, chief ministers and state exco members, and for these to be vetted by an international accounting firm;

- Implement open competitive tenders;

- Bar family members from involvement in government contracts;

- Protect genuine whistleblowers; and

- Remove leaders with extravagant lifestyles, and come clean on political donations.
