Suddenly, it's raining money in Penang

YOURSAY 'Men like billionaire Jho Low are now treated like God. Giving money for its intrinsic purpose of love, expecting no returns, is lost on these philanthropists.'

1Malaysia NGO gives RM2mil to journo, welfare groups

your say Ferdtan: Free money flowing, free food and free almost everything is being thrown to the people. These majestic rich people make ‘beggars' out of the rakyat.

What a spectacular show (good for their inflated ego) to make the people literally eating out of their hands. I thought the scene is in some poor country in Africa where children fighting for a dime from the donor.

We don't blame the people - anything free is good. It may be excusable as they are common folks on the street, but if you have educated leaders from the journalist associations waiting in line for the piteous ‘handout', something is not right somewhere.

There goes such thing called pride and dignity. There is no more shame anymore when it comes to money. The moral of the story is that money speaks louder.

Men like billionaire Jho Low are now treated like God. The pureness of charity, giving money for its intrinsic purpose of love and kindness, expecting no returns, are lost on these groups of so-called philanthropists.

Our caretaker PM Najib Razak understands better, "You help me, help you".

Onyourtoes: Many of these businessmen are probably rich beyond their wildest dream and we are happy for them.

But I wonder if they would give away that generously if it has been their hard-earned money. I have an inkling that they earned the money too easily or they are just a front to spend on behalf of political parties.

As for recipients, particularly the three journalists clubs, just ask yourself some simple questions: Do you think it is strange for someone to give you so much money out of the blue especially at this critical moment?

Do you think you deserve more than other welfare organisations like those running shelters for abandoned children, battered wives and old folk homes?

Yes, one can always said the donation is unconditional, but has it ever occurred to you that this is how corruption and buying influence work?

Fellow Malaysians, looking at the events unfolding each day, I hope we will strengthen our resolve to change the regime and everything within - corrupted cronies, unethical journalists, and pseudo NGOs.

Astounded: The 1Malaysia Penang Welfare Club president urged everyone to reject those who tried to divide the people. I agree wholeheartedly.

Reject BN because by its policies and programmes such as NEP (New Economic Policy) and BTN (Biro Tatanegara) and its association with people such as Hasan Ali and Ibrahim Ali.

BN has divided and continue to divide Malaysians by race and religion.

Bender: This is the "you help me" part that Jho Low had to dish out after Najib and gang have done doing their "I help you" part.

Jho Low must be seriously indebted to Najib for making him the young billionaire that he is today. Giving back is good, of course, but if it comes with certain 'conditions' then Mr Low, you can keep your money.

Anonymous #85701391: Calling all Malaysians, read KiniBiz editor P Gunasegaram articles on '10 Questions for 1MDB' in Malaysiakini and you will know where all the money or so-called donation is coming from.

Yes, this is our money, quietly removed from our country and to be paid for by us, the taxpayers of Malaysia, in later years.

Titleist: Thirty years old and a billionaire with a private jet?

I knew him as the son of one of the founding owners of Malaysian Weaving Works Bhd (MWE, market price RM1.78, total market capitalisation RM412million or US$137 million), it is unthinkable how he can be a billionaire in two or three years' time.

Anonymous_3ff5: This must be BN's's way of winning votes for GE13 - by buying NGOs' and bribing journalists with free meals.

Beware, once they come to power, they rob everything and leave nothing for the rakyat. I hope Penang Journalists and Photographers Association (Pewaju) president Kevin Chua is right that the donation is unconditional and continue to protect the principle and true meaning of press freedom.

More often than not, in the Malaysian context, freedom of the press means journalists are free to write whatever their paymaster wants them to write.

Mahashitla: This is the time when BN splashes their ill-gotten wealth as they cannot find faults in the Penang government.

Whatever monies or goodies offered to us and disguised under Najib's 1Malaysia logo, take it. Penang's eh-lang (people) are smart and they will know what to do.

Ahmingchai: Giving donations to them is indeed a good deed as they need funds to run.

However, whether members will vote for BN is another question and Penangites know who they want to vote - take the money and vote for Pakatan Rakyat.
