Pasir Mas Umno division is prepared to give way to Perkasa president, Ibrahim Ali, to defend his parliamentary seat - if he is prepared to contest under the BN logo.

azlan Its division chief Hanafi Mamat said this would be only if there was agreement from the party's top leadership and only if Ibrahim contests under the BN ticket.

"Umno Pasir Mas got to know that Ibrahim would like to contest here, but we are uncertain whether he will contest under the BN or as an independent candidate.

"If the party leadership gives Ibrahim the go-ahead to contest a parliamentary seat, then we will accept it. The division will not be angry as the Umno leaders decide what is beneficial for the party," Berita Harian today quotes Hanafi as saying.

The Perkasa president and former deputy minister in the Prime Minister's Department was reported as saying earlier this month that he would defend the Pasir Mas seat. Even former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has declared his support for Ibrahim.

Ibrahim also said he would take temporary leave as Perkasa president to concentrate on defending his seat. Until the general election is over, he added, his deputy Abdul Rahman Bakar would be acting president of Perkasa.
