Caretaker Menteri Besar Adnan Yaakob, who is Pahang BN chief, was quoted by Sinar Harian as saying that Abdul Rahman Mohamad replaces Shahrom Osman for the Lipis parliamentary seat. Abdul Rahman, who was initially slated to contest in Padang Tengku state seat, is now being replaced by Lipis vice-head Mustapa Long, who is also Adnan’s former special affairs officer.
Mohamad Fakhruddin Mohd Ariff replaces Ibrahim Awang Ismail for the Bebar state seat.
Adnan, however, maintained the candidate for Luit, Norhidayah Mohd Shahaimi, despite protests reported in the state constituency.
In Johol, Negri Sembilan, Utusan Malaysia reports that the BN candidate Mohd Fadzil Abu Kassim was reported to have returned the letter of authorisation for him to be a candidate there.
This follows previous reports that eight BN centres in Johol had closed down and 500 people had protested yesterday against his candidacy. Mohd Fadzil had returned the letter to Negri Sembilan caretaker Menteri Besar Mohamad Hassan, who asked the candidate to reconsider.
Later today,
Sinar Harian
reported that businessperson Abu Samah Mahat has been appointed as the Johol candidate, after Mohamad accepted Mohd Fadzil's withdrawal amidst protests.
Sinar also reported that several non-governmental organisations had protested, wanting former federal territories minister Zulhasnan Rafique ( left ) to re-contest in the Setiawangsa parliamentary seat.
Zulhasnan had contested and won the Setiawangsa seat in 2004 and 2008. BN has placed Ahmad Fauzi Zahari to contest there to replace him.
The daily also reported that Sepang Umno committee member Hanapiah Mohamad wants to contest in the parliament seat on an Independent ticket. BN has retained former works minister Mohd Zin Mohamed to defend the seat.
