Mazlan Ismail, the BN candidate for Permatang Pauh , has described opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim as an "egoistic leader" for not shaking hands with him on nomination day.

NONE A former Telekom Malaysia vice-president, Mazlan ( left ) said Anwar's action reflected his true character, Utusan Malaysia quoted him as saying.

"After the nomination closed, reporters and photographers asked Anwar and me to shake hands, to take pictures.

"But the opposition leader seemed uncomfortable with that. The media asked Anwar three times and finally he shook my hand, briefly, and went away," said Mazlan.

Mazlan also said Anwar tried to show that he had close ties with Penang PAS commissioner, Mohd Salleh Man, even though this was not true.

'PAS associating with the devil'

Meanwhile, Berita Harian reports caretaker Malacca Chief Minister Mohd Ali Rustam as describing PAS as "associating with the devil" for its links with the other Pakatan Rakyat parties.

Ali said this in reference to PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang's statement on "satanic elements" among the opposition, for there were candidates included those who pushed drugs and adopted Karl Marx ideology.

In an immediate response, Terengganu PKR chief Azan Ismail denied any of the party's candidates were involved in criminal or immoral activities, including trafficking in drugs.

"Not only Terengganu PKR but the central party leadership as well had strictly vetted the candidates. I deny any PKR candidate in this election is involved in such activities as alleged," said Azan, the former Indera Mahkota MP.
