PERAK Caretaker Perak Menteri Besar Zambry Abdul Kadir has slammed his rival Nizar Jamaluddin of fleeing from Pasir Panjang because the latter is afraid of losing as he was not performing his duties as the people’s representative.

He said that Nizar, who is contesting in the Changkat Jering state seat, had never raised any issue regarding Pasir Panjang - neither in the state legislative assembly, nor to the municipal council.

NONE "If the representative was really working, will he run away from Pasir Panjang? No! If he was genuinely working, he will not run away," Zambry ( right ) added.

"I asked him in the assembly hall, because I am the (Lumut Umno) division chief - Pasir Panjang is within my territory. I asked (Pasir Panjang’s Nizar), as long as you act as the people’s representative, how many questions regarding Pasir Panjang had you brought up?

"Ladies and gentlemen, it is not a lie; no (questions had been raised), not even one,” he told the 1,000-strong crowd of BN supporters in a ‘1Malaysia people-gathering’ event at Kampung Pasir Panjang Laut today.

It is noted that the special guest at the event was BN deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin.

Zambry claimed that Nizar had told him that his service centre had raised the issue to Manjung Municipal Council president Zamri Man’s office and there was no need for him to raise the issue in the state legislative assembly.

“I checked, and found out that it was another lie, no (problem raised) at all.

“So ladies and gentlemen, please think on whether we want this kind of people’s representative from this kind of party to represent Pasir Panjang?” he added.

Nizar defeated his opponent S Vasan from MIC during the last general election with a majority of 4,474 under PAS ticket.

‘Our questions unreasonably rejected’

However, Perak DAP secretary Nga Kor Ming accused Zambry of lying, stressing that their questions tabled to the state legislative assembly were unreasonably rejected after the change of the state government.

The incumbent Pantai Remis state assemblyperson said that all the assemblypersons had the right to table eight questions to the state government in each sitting, but Nizar’s and other Pakatan Rakyat representatives’ questions were rejected without giving any proper reason.

“This is another strong proof of Zambry lying publicly,” he told Malaysiakini via a phone interview.

During the event, Muhyiddin told the people that there’s no reason to ‘ubah’ (change government) as BN has done well for the country.

The caretaker deputy prime minister said that the current government has done well in terms of national security, racial unity, economy and education and intellectual development.

He added that BN is also a government that fulfil its promises.

“The opposition has come out with slogans like ‘Ubah’ and ‘Ini Kali Lah’ (this is the only time) to ask the people to topple BN government so that they can claim power over the whole country and march towards Putrajaya.

“But I know that the rakyat will not listen to the ‘Ubah’ slogan and will defend the government. There is no need for drastic change to remove the BN government,” he said.
