PKR has criticised the BN-Hindraf memorandum of understanding (MOU) as being a “watered-down and compromised” document, as compared to what the Waythamoorthy faction had presented to Pakatan Rakyat previously.

NONE Party vice-president N Surendran ( right ) said that the two imperative points of concern plaguing the Indian community - which are racial discrimination and deaths in custody - were “completely dropped” in the document which Najib had signed two days before nomination day.

While Waythamoorthy yesterday accused Anwar of lying about the differences in the documents presented to Pakatan and to BN, Surendran verified that the MOU signed by Najib was “fundamentally different”.

“Pakatan had in fact agreed in principle to the original six-point blueprint, which was already incorporated into the Buku Jingga and Pakatan Rakyat manifesto,” said Surendran in a statement today.

“The MOU is a blank cheque given by the Waytha-Hindraf faction to BN for discriminatory practices to continue.

“The issues of racism and deaths in custody have always been at the forefront of Pakatan Rakyat’s campaign,” he added.

“Even as Waytha signed the MOU with Najib, death in custody victim C Sugumar’s body remains in the Serdang hospital awaiting a second post-mortem,” he noted.

NONE Surendran stressed that the signing of the blueprint between Najib and the Waytha-Hindraf faction was tantamount to one of the “worst betrayals” in the history of the Indian community in Malaysia.

Since the ‘historic’ MOU between Waythamoorthy’s Hindraf and Najib, the former Umno arch enemy has been campaigning for BN and urging Indians to return the ruling party’s two-thirds majority.

Yesterday, it was reported that a group of Indians tried to stop Waythamoorthy from campaigning in Gelang Patah, but the police then quickly stepped in to help the Hindraf leader continue his speech by holding back the protesters.
