Pakatan Rakyat supremo Anwar Ibrahim is in Jakarta today, following a meeting with Indonesian President Bambang Susilo Yudhoyono in Bali last night.

NONE Speculation has swirled over Anwar’s presence in Jakarta today when Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak is also in the Indonesian capital.

PKR sources have ruled out the possibility of a meeting between Anwar and Najib, although from the PM’s quarter it is being bruited about that the BN and Pakatan leaders would meet to discuss matters of mutual interest.

Anwar has himself , in a Twitter posting earlier today, denying that he would be meeting Najib.

"Not true!" he said in response to the rumours circulating in the micro-blogging site.

One PKR source said that Anwar’s presence in Jakarta was for the purpose of a joint press conference with former Indonesian vice-president Jusuf Kalla, the man the Asian Wall Street Journal said in a recent report who had brokered a pre-polls deal between Najib and Anwar that both leaders would peaceably accept the verdict of the Malaysian electorate at GE13.

The respected international newspaper had quoted Jusuf to the effect that Anwar had reneged on his side of the deal.

Jusuf to clarify his statement

NONE The PKR source said that Jusuf ( right ) was expected in today’s press conference in Jakarta to deny that Anwar had reneged on the deal.

The source also said that any suggestion that Anwar would meet with the Malaysian PM during the latter’s Jakarta sojourn to work out some deal would be outlandish because that “would be going behind the backs of other Pakatan leaders.”

“If Anwar wanted to work out some deal, he would have long since done it with his adversaries who have not been short of offers which he has refused,” commented the PKR source.

He also said that the subject of the Malaysian polls on May 5 came up for discussion  between Susilo and Anwar in Bali last night.
