The haze, which has reached hazardous levels in several parts of the country, has sent more people to the Malacca Hospital.

State health and sports development committee chairperson Ab Rahaman Ab Karim said today 355 cases of respiratory and eye ailments were recorded yesterday compared to 247 on Tuesday and 159 on Monday.

“In three days, the increase in the number of patients affected by the haze has been significant and I advised the people to reduce outdoor activities,” he told reporters after opening a seminar on health at the Al-Azim Mosque in Malacca.

Ab Rahaman said that as at 7am today, the City of Malacca and Bukit Rambai recorded unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings of 134 and 117, respectively.

He said the state Health Department was prepared to open a special counter at the hospital if the number of patients continued to rise.

He advised the people to seek treatment immediately if they suffered from the early signs of the haze effects, such as difficulty breathing, burning and watery eyes, running nose, frequent sneezing and chest pain.
