EC, don't hide behind the skirt of the constitution
VOXPOP 'If stepping down is against the federal constitution, then is cheating, fraud and misleading the rakyat about the indelible ink constitutional?'
EC sticks to its guns, reiterates it won't resign
Korkor:
EC deputy chief Wan Ahmad Wan Omar says he had "done nothing wrong from the legal perspective"?
Lying about the indelible ink is already a major offence, what more does he need?
Quigonbond: And pray tell what does "enjoying public confidence" mean? The failure and lies over indelible ink is enough for any reasonable Election Commission (EC) to resign en bloc.
Wan Ahmad should at least speak the truth and say, "As long as BN wants us, the PM is not going to advise Agong to appoint a new batch of EC and our rice bowl is secure."
He shouldn't dabble on issues of constitutionality or legality when he has so little credibility to discuss them, given EC's determination to ensure that the elections are unfair and unclean.
Mushiro: If stepping down is irresponsible and goes against the federal constitution, then is cheating, fraud and misleading the rakyat about the indelible ink constitutional?
It is not for Wan Ahmad or the EC to claim that they have conducted the election successfully, it is up to the customer, in this case the rakyat, to do so.
However, the rakyat have denounced GE13 loud and clear at the Black 505 rallies.
Hang Tuah PJ: Wan Ahmad, can you please quote to me which part of the constitution states that to ‘step down is irresponsible and goes against the federal constitution'?
Faz: The EC duo are basically persona non grata to the majority of Malaysian voters. But with their thick skins and being Umno's slaves, they are in no position to act correctly.
This episode does not compare well with Hussein Onn, who resigned as the president of Umno after being challenged by Sulaiman Palestin, although the former won by a large margin. There was self-respect and wisdom in Hussein then but the EC duo have none.
Justice Pao: Wan Ahmad, both your boss and you not resigning for the many foul-ups and bias towards Umno is what is against the constitution.
Any person not as thick skin as both of you would have willingly left the positions even before Bersih 2.0, let alone continuing your wayward ways past GE13.
Anyway Umno still needs you to commit more fraud so they will not let their two goons quit after doing such a good job for them.
Nil: When the EC concluded an election with a minority government ruling the country, a government which is not what the majority of the people voted for, that's not a job well done. The people want you to roll up your mats and go.
Chee Hoe Siew: This is the first time I hear that asking someone to resign is against the constitution. This guy is a real joke.
DBKL, police kick campers out of Padang Merbok
Pahatian: It is sad that such action is taken by DBKL (City Hall) and the police although assurance was given by DBKL that the campers would move out by 8am.
And for DBKL and the police to take action during the early hours before dawn is both disgusting and inhumane. They are worse than thugs or Ah Longs.
The campers are peace-loving people who are protesting against electoral fraud and do not mean to stay put at Padang Merbok. The authorities should just ignore them and let it be and see how long those campers can last.
In actual fact they should tackle the haze rather than the campers. They should have handed out face masks to the campers and advised them that the haze could be detrimental to their health if they camp out in the open.
I am sure with this friendly gesture the campers would definitely feel obliged and break camp.
Margaret Martinez: I am getting perturbed at Malaysiakini's increasingly hostile headlines against the protesters.
"Kicked out" should not be how we describe what happened to the protesters. On the day of Black 505 we were told the railway track was "invaded" by protesters, which is an overreaction and a "violent" word to use.
Malaysiakini , I feel you are beginning to sound like the mainstream media and it is very unsettling.
Game Changer: According to eyewitnesses, the DBKL and police literally kicked the protestors, so Malaysiakini reporting them being "kicked out" would seem appropriate to describe their actions.
By the way, were their actions necessary at all - didn't DBKL get the assurance that the field would be emptied by 8am by the protestors? Such cowardice, the attack on the peaceful protestors.
2lan How I wish our authorities in both DBKL and police are as active in fighting illegal parking and crime. I guess protesters are easier targets as they do not fight back.
Kit P: Kuala Lumpur is facing many serious problems - crime, environmental pollution, urban poverty and traffic jams. The activists camped at Padang Merbok are the least of DBKL's concerns. They are utterly lacking in sense of priorities.
Pputeh: Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, who is from a constituency of 17,000 voters, tries to flex his muscles. He was the same individual instrumental in moving favoured judges to higher positions. The type of ministers we have - shameless.
Harapanbaru: BN has gone far beyond being able to do anything right. Every step it takes will be one step closer to its inevitable doom.
