"A mosque is a place of worship for Allah alone. We don't want mosques to be used for party politics.
"Have a clean campaign and avoid backbiting," he told reporters after attending a tithe handing over ceremony in Kuala Terengganu today.
The Election Commission (EC) has set July 24 for polling and this Friday for nomination day for Kuala Besut.
The by-election is being held following the death of incumbent Dr A Rahman Mokhtar on June 26 due to lung cancer.
