Court allows bail for Alvivi but sets conditions
Powerstar:
It's good that bloggers Alvin Tan and Vivian Lee (Alvivi) are given bail. But the bail amount and the conditions are a bit too much for a prank.
God Save Us: Bail at RM30,000? Two wrongs do not make a right. Maybe the authorities should be kicked on their behinds for allowing this situation to arise in the first place.
The idiots who kicked a cow's head in Shah Alam, and who incidentally were protected by the then home minister, did not require such deep pockets.
Sali Tambap: Hopefully this will be a lesson learned for the Alvivi duo. They really need a good spanking.
As for the High Court decision, at last sanity prevailed. We cannot help but feel that the management of this case has left a bitter taste in the mouth.
Were the Alvivi duo necessary pawns that were being used in the Kuala Besut by election and that it was nothing but a political ruse? Was the high-handed treatment being imposed on them an overkill?
Is it now a deliberate attempt to review this case after the by-election, knowing that it will not stand in the court of law? These are some questions that probably would bother our mind.
Kgen: RM30,000 bail for a childish prank is excessive when rapists can get away with RM10,000 bail. Alvivi are not even a flight risk. The court has no sense of balance.
Hang Tuah PJ: Isn't that a bit too much? It is as good as no bail at all. They are unemployed. Where are they going to get that money?
Cogito Ergo Sum: Justice must not only be done, but also seen to be done. What is manifestly clear is the disproportionate quantum of bail. Are we saying that robbing and raping are lesser evils than this act of stupidity?
If found guilty, Alvivi should be punished. And I doubt if they will fare better than a snow flake in hell and probably get an exemplary sentence.
Alyo: While some other racist politicians walk free in this nation, some citizens who had carried out a childish act are being punished.
Not that I'm saying this duo should not be punished, but at least a fine or warning would suffice, and I don't think they would do it again. Unlike Perkasa chief Ibrahim Ali, who never seems to stop.
Stop Lynas: This is double standards on the part of our judicial system. They are just two mischievous kids. The way they were manhandled is like using cannons to kill a chicken.
Respect for religion goes both ways. Those involved in the cow's head parade in Shah Alam had gone almost unpunished. Do you think Hindus don't have feelings?
Truly Malaysian: It is a sad day to be a non-Muslim in Malaysia. Alvivi should be spanked and maybe sentenced to two months of community work for their stupidity and insensitivity.
Using the Sedition Act and jail is too severe for naughty young individuals. Where is all the compassion and mercy we alway hear about, especially in the holy month of Ramadan?
2 Tim 1:7 2: By responding feebly to the seditious and inflammatory statements of Ibrahim Ali and his ilk, we are effectively telling them that we will not stand up for our just rights.
We must not be intimidated by their threat to use the army and the police against us, for people power is far superior to them.
At any rate, why must we fear institutions managed by men of half-past six calibre? Surely there are amongst us very intelligent men and women who can organise our resources with telling effect.
If the trend continues, non-Muslims will soon be effectively confined to 'ghettos' in order that supremacist Muslims may be protected from all that they reckon is offensive. But in the scheme of things, form is infinitely more important than substance.
Fourtan Their passports impounded? It's as if the duo are international terrorists or money launderers.
Tan Soo Inn: Whatever happened to those two chaps who went into a Catholic church to take communion under false pretenses and then spat the communion on the ground later?
Pisasu 7 : Perkasa leaders Ibrahim Ali and Zulkifli Noordin and the Sungai Buloh school headmaster should be put in the next cell to Alvivi if this is fair country.
Toonarmy: Stop demanding for Ibrahim Ali and Zulkifli Noordin to be prosecuted for acts of sedition. They are above the law and can do no wrong. Please don't seek the impossible.
Any Umnoputra worth his salt will tell you that prosecuting them will confuse and weaken the Malays, weaken Islam and undermine the rulers.
Swipenter: We have one country, two systems. One for us and one for the Umnoputras and their supporters.
NuckinFuts: According to the court, "Tan and Lee must not upload materials or have access to smart network devices to upload religious and racially sensitive material..."
But meanwhile, some mainstream newspapers will still continue to print racially charged material with impunity. What a gross injustice.
