Three more Muslims contestants who were dropped from the Miss Malaysia World beauty pageant after the Federal Territories mufti Wan Zahidi Wan Teh said their participation is sinful and haram, will be hauled up for questioning.

The Federal Territories Islamic Affairs Department said it will be questioning Nur Amirah Shiekh Nasir, Wafa Johanna De Korte and Kathrina Redzuan, according to a Berita Harian report today.

NONE This comes after an initial meeting with the contest organiser Anna Lim and another contestant Sara Amelia Muhamad Bernard ( right ).

Jawi director Che Mat Che Ali said the investigation is a reminder against anyone questioning fatwas that are binding on Muslims and to protect the sanctity of Islam.

"Islam is the national religion, so do not make statements against fatwas that will affect the sensitivities of Muslims," he was quoted saying.

A 1996 fatwa bans Muslim women from participating in any beauty pageant.

Lim in her meeting with Jawi on July 25 expressed optimism that the ban may be reversed as the beauty pageant rules have changed, allowing Muslims to dress modestly.

Meanwhile, one of the contestants Nur Amirah told the daily that she was prepared to be questioned.

"I have not done anything wrong, so there is nothing for me to be afraid of if they want me to come forward for investigation," she said.
