Disunity among Muslims in this country has encouraged others to challenge the position of Islam with the aim of destroying the religion.

Religious adviser to the prime minister Dr Abdullah Md Zin said efforts to unite Muslims from various parties often failed because Muslims are more concerned with politics and the interest of their own group.

"It is sad that Islam is often ridiculed by believers of other faiths starting from the word 'Allah' until the defiling of a surau in Johor for worship by believers of other faiths," he told reporters at the Aidilfitri celebration of Besut Wanita Umno division in Gong Kemuntong in Besut today.

Many people dared to make fun of Islam to humiliate the religion because they know that Muslims are not united because of different political ideology.

Abdullah urged Muslims to put set aside their political beliefs and become united for the sake of the religion.

"We should emulate the Sultan of Johor, religious authorities and people in the state for their fast action in addressing the surau issue to prevent it from being manipulated."

Abdullah said that religious issues should be stopped with the  word 'Allah' case but the support given by a handful of Muslims dragged the issue and led to other issues.
