DAP's Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng has urged the authorities to hand over prosecution duties to DAP's legal bureau to handle the murder of Mongolian national Altantuya Shariibuu.

"This has been done before. The government had appointed a private practitioner as a prosecutor previously, so this is possible.

"We ( the DAP) will make sure the accused are charged accordingly," Lim told Malaysiakini today shortly after lodging a police report urging the authorities to re-open the probe into the Altantuya murder.

The urging comes in the wake of the Court of Appeal's decision to free the two accused charged with the offence, Special Action Unit officers Chief Inspector Azilah Hadri and Corporal Sirul Azhar Umar yesterday.

NONE Lim left () today lodged a police report along with three others urging the police to re-open investigations into the Mongolian interpreter's murder, which happened in October 2006 in Shah Alam, with a new panel of investigators.

"We also want the police to investigate why the prosecutor (in Sirul and Azilah's trial) did not call upon DSP Musa Safri to be a witness though he was a key witness in this trial," Lim said.

"We also want to know why the police diary was not handed over to the High Court judge previously," he added.

The Court of Appeal decided that there were serious misdirections by the High Court judge during the initial trial that found Azilah and Sirul guilty of the charge.

Among them were the failure to call Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's former aide de camp, Musa as a witness, and also the failure to take into the consideration the police station diary which stated that Azilah was at Bukit Aman when the offence was allegedly committed.

DAP's Kinrara assemblyperson Ng Sze Han also lodged the report with Lim.

The report was filed at the Jinjang Utara Police Station this morning.
