The top leader of PAS' Ulama wing, Harun Taib, has urged the party to review its political cooperation with Pakatan Rakyat and in particular PKR.

NONE According to Sinar Harian today, Harun ( right ) said this was in light of recent developments that have been detrimental to the party.

"I hope the central PAS will immediately form a special committee to evaluate and review the fall in support from Malay voters including Tahaluf Siyasi (political cooperation) with Pakatan and how much it benefits PAS," he was quoted as saying.

Harun added that seats that PAS is to concede to PKR in future general elections should similarly be reviewed.

He further attributed PAS "tolerance" to non-Muslims for the erosion of Malay support to the party.

‘Too tolerant'

"The attitude of over-tolerance and carelessness towards the demands of non-Muslims and non-Malays raised doubts about the party's ability to safeguard their interests," he was quoted as saying.

Instead, Harun praised Umno, saying that the archrival was better at fishing Malay votes.

He pointed out that despite contesting 73 seats in the 13th general election, the party lost in 51 seats.

pakatan convention alor setar abdul hadi awang PAS which formed a post-election alliance with DAP and PKR after the 12th general election only won 21 parliamentary seats in the subsequent general election, two less than before.

In immediate response, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang ( right ) sought to play down the proposal, saying that such reviews were normal in a political party.

"That is normal, we must look and evaluate our every step. To date, we are still with Pakatan," he was quoted as saying in Utusan Malaysia .
