Some 500 MCA central delegates and grassroots leaders gathered at a hotel opposite the party headquarters in Kuala Lumpur today for a briefing on alleged wrongdoings of their president, Dr Chua Soi Lek.

The gathering was led by the party's Wangsa Maju division chief Yew Teong Look.

NONE Most of those present demanded that Chua answers their questions pertaining to the party’s assets.

Among others, Yew ( left ) alleged that Chua sold an eight-acre plot of land belonging to MCA to a developer early this year.

He claimed that the land, handed over during the leadership of former MCA president Dr Ling Liong Sik, was donated by the late Chinese entrepreneur Loh Boon Siew to build a second MCA headquarters and training centre.

However, Yew said, the land was sold to property developer Mah Sing Group for RM8 million earlier this year.

'Chua misleading the party'

“I made a thorough survey and questioned a number of central committee (CC) members on why the decision was made to dispose of the land in Bangi, Selangor.

“The reason they (the CC members) give me was that the 13th general election was coming and MCA needed money (to campaign), and that the land was located a distance away. When questioned about the financial status of our MCA, nobody could tell me,” he added.

mca cc meeting 050913 03 chua soi lek Yew alleged that the decision made was because of president Chua misleading the party, that the reason given for the land sale was false and he blamed this on Chua.

“Bangi is not too far away. And what is RM8 million to help in the general election, in comparison with our hundreds of million ringgit in MCA the finances?”

Yew further said he wanted MCA to claim back the land to restore the pride and dignity of the party.

On MCA-owned English daily The Star , Yew said the company, in which MCA held a 42 percent share, had declared a total of RM759 million in dividends.

“MCA received RM319 million from its shares in The Star alone and not counting other incomes. But the president said the party had gained RM107 million.

“The balance is RM212 million and the question is, where have the balance money gone to? This is our question. How is the money that has been paid to MCA managed? Is it properly managed? We have a lot of question marks in our mind.”

Yew urged MCA to focus on politics and not on business, saying the party’s assets should be looked after by professionals and not by politicians.

“MCA has been misguided by our president. Thus we propose that MCA’s assets be dealt with by professionals in a transparent manner and with good governance. This will show the credibility of the party.”
