A special committee has been set up to study and scrutinise the Auditor-General's Report 2012, chief secretary to the government Dr Ali Hamsa said today.

He said the committee, which he chaired, comprised the Public Service director-general, attorney-general, as well as representatives from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), Finance Ministry and Royal Malaysian Police.

NONEAli (left) said the committee would follow up, including taking stern action against those involved in any misappropriation in the financial administration of the ministries and agencies as disclosed in the report.

"We have asked the MACC, as the first agency (in the committee) to study whether there were issues concerning the MACC that should be solved first.

"The Public Service has also given assurance that everything will be carried out in a transparent manner," he said in response to the Consultative and Corruption Prevention Panel's (PPPR) proposal for a special committee be set up to study the auditor-general's report and to come out with concrete suggestions to immediately overcome all weaknesses.

He said he had also instructed all ministries to take disciplinary action against their staff found responsible for the weaknesses disclosed in the report.

Projects, procurement to be monitored

Meanwhile, Ali said another special committee, which will also be chaired by him, would be set up soon to monitor all government projects and procurement.

"In case of any misappropriation, stern action will be taken against the staff involved," he said.

Ali was met after attending the Rafulin Foundation's corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Bukit Badong in Kuala Selangor today.

He said the foundation had donated a multi-purpose hall, which was built at a cost of RM2.12 million, to the school as part of its CSR programme.

Other than that, Ali said the foundation had also financed the construction of a two-storey building, built at a cost of RM1.526 milllion, to SK Ijok.
