YOURSAY 'Please don't allow evil to overwhelm our conscience and our way of life. Once lost, it is difficult to recover.'

Zaid raps those afraid to offend 'potential PM'

your say, YoursayTehachapi: Former law minister Zaid Ibrahim, your fear and prophesy about the rapid descent of Malaysia into a police state is shared by many.

Sadly, few seem to take notice or care enough about the future of this land. Neither has the urgency of arresting the situation been taken seriously.

Edmund Burke once said, "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." Where are the good men in Malaysia?

Is PM Najib Razak, senior Umno leaders, and the Malaysian intelligentsia considered good men? Why so few of you care to defend the name and honour of this land?

Please don't allow evil to overwhelm our conscience and our way of life. Once lost, it is difficult to recover.

To an outsider, it is puzzling why Malaysia is so intensely passionate about self-destruction. Aren't there enough troubles already in this world?

Instead of inspiring the people and leading them forward to build a harmonious and prosperous nation with a purpose, our leaders find ample reasons to offend the sensibilities of the people, sow strife, and cause anxieties.

Harsh and callous words are often used and hurtful actions are taken against the people without apparent reason except to demonstrate their power and wealth. The smallest and inconsequential differences are blown out of proportions to score brownie points.

The Umno leaders are immensely effective in destroying any semblance of gentleness of spirit, thoughtfulness and moderate demeanour.

Sadly when will those occupying the seat of power realise that if we continue on the current course, everything great or good about Malaysia will be destroyed very soon. Such eventuality is terribly painful and regretful.

Jean Pierre: Our country has never been in a more precarious position. A person accused of assault and kidnapping, who believes in extermination of crime suspects, who protects and panders to a corrupt police force, who befriends and supports a criminal gang because they are of his own race, whose racist tendencies borders on being genocidal, is actually a rising star and a future PM.

The Malay population who supported this tyrannical regime wholeheartedly thinking it's for their good will be in for a terrible surprise. History tends to repeat itself, albeit in different places.

Ribena: Umno should learn that, instead of talking incessantly on acting tough with tertiary prevention of crime like 'terminating' suspected criminals. Why not focus on primary prevention?

Deal with the social ills that give rise to crimes in the first place. And of course, there is still a lot to be done on secondary prevention - the rehabilitation of convicted criminals so they won't return to criminal paths after serving their sentence.

Headhunter: Zaid, I lift my hat to you for speaking out. I only wish that there were more like you. You are very right that our elected leaders are all cowards who only think of their own positions and to hell with the rest of us.

Even the opposition is being cowed except for a few. Our beloved country is sinking deeper and deeper in the abyss, no thanks to a weak PM whose silence is deafening and sickening.

Appum: Zaid, please continue 'educating' the Umnoputras on the dangerous course their leaders are steering the country towards.

Because of your standing and status, our Malay brothers will listen and if they don't take heed, they one day will wake up to regret it. They may one day themselves become the victims of these elites.

R Venugopal: The home minister is now guiding this nation to the Stone Age and it is pointless to teach him.

It looks like he has a big following in the nation and could utter what ever he likes. Even the PM has been very silent on Zahid's approach in handling criminals and what more to comment.

There is a very strong backing for Zahid and none can stop him, including the AG.

Abasir: A minor amendment to your statement Zaid, which should read: "Najib spends millions on PR consultants so he (not we) can look good and progressive in America and Europe, and yet the rubbish coming out of his appointees' mouths remains so utterly frightening to any civilised human being."

Now that is worthy of a 'sticky' on all portals.

Fair Play: Zaid, get real. This is Malaysian politics at its best (or worst). Only way to survive is to bootlick those in powers and also those perceived to be rising stars.

Who dare make any unflattering remark to this 'shoot from the hip' guy? But no need to worry. His downfall would be caused by his own folly.

Sirach: Zahid a "potential prime minister" surely is way over the top speculation. It's almost like saying that Muhyiddin is a potential PM. Wait a minute, Muhyiddin is, isn't he?

Aaaargh!: Zahid - a potential future PM. Now that is a very frightening thought and potential. I am truly afraid for Malaysians, not from crooks but the very lawmakers we have now.
