Somebody has complained to Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin about the MCA extraordinary general meeting (EGM) that seeks to censure party deputy president Liow Tiong Lai, MCA president Dr Chua Soi Lek said today.

Chua confirmed at a press conference that he was made known of the complaint when he explained to Muhyiddin the reason for the resolution to censure Liow.

"I've explained to him, the reason for having this resolution," he said, adding that Muhyiddin didn't give any instructions to MCA on the matter.

NONE"No instruction. He (Muhyiddin) knows MCA has its own channels and party constitution," Chua said.

Twenty central committee members have called for the EGM, to be held on Oct 20, to discuss matters pertaining to MCA's decision to shun government posts and to censure Liow (above).

However, Chua was reported to have told grassroots members during recent a closed-door dinner function that Umno intended to intervene in the matter .

"We are of the opinion that we do not need outsiders to intervene (in MCA's affairs)," he said when responding to reports that Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Mansor was offering to help resolve MCA's internal conflict.

‘CC members will go ahead with EGM'

The 20 CC members who requested the EGM have pledged to go ahead with it, even if there is intervention from Umno and outsiders, he added.

Chua's at this second press conference on the EGM this week also called on the party's 2,400 central delegates to attend the EGM, which he claimed would make the party and party members winners.

He also said the resolution on Liow was being carried out for the benefit of the party, and that there was nothing personal or vengeful about it

"Chua Soi Lek will not be the winner. If the four motions are passed, the winners will be the MCA and party members," he said.

The resolution, he added, would benefit the party in three ways: the party leaders will execute their duties fully, the party leaders will be able to refrain the grassroots from tarnishing the party during party elections, and democratise the grassroots with the responsibility to judge non-performing leaders, including with the passage of no confidence votes.
