DAY 7 SG LIMAU Quotable quotes, planned events and unplanned incidents as they take place in the run-up to the by-election on Nov 4.
5.15PM: The BN candidate for the Sungai Limau state seat by-election, Ahmad Sohaimi Lazim, has denied a rumour that has been circulating that he would be pulling out of the Nov 4 contest.
Sohaimi (right) said at the BN operations centre in Sungai Limau, Yan that the issue should never arise as he was fully committed to the responsibility and trust given to him by the BN leadership.
"Whatever happens, I will continue. Even before the nomination day, I was already determined to carry on till the end.
"There is no reverse gear in this. I will continue with the mission. That is my commitment," Bernama reported him as telling reporters in an interview when asked about the rumour.
1.05pm: PAS' use of an allegedly fake photograph in its campaign shows that the party is desperate for issues, Umno information chief Ahmad Maslan said.
According to Bernama, Ahmad said the BN would never resort to such a thing to fish for votes in its election campaigns.
"It shows that the opposition has run out of issues to woo voters. The BN will never practise such a tactic," he was quoted as saying on the campaign trail to draw support for BN's candidate Ahmad Sohaimi Lazim.
Ahmad was asked to comment on the claim by the Malay language newspaper Sinar Harian that a photograph in a PAS' campaign flyer was a fake.
The photograph showed PAS' candidate Mohd Azam Abd Samat meeting the late Azizan Abdul Razak in his office while the latter was the Kedah menteri besar.
1pm: At Markas PAS Sungai Limau, the Islamic party asks voters to say ‘no' "expired goods" given out by BN during the campaign period, urging them to be careful of what they are given in their goody bags.
PAS vice-president Mahfuz Omar said the family of one the staff members of Harakah, the party's media organ, received an expired tin of condensed milk in a bag from the BN in Sungai Dedap.
The goods, including rice and floor, were handed to the constituents by Baling MP Azeez Abdul Rahim's team on Monday.
"We believe that this has been distributed to some 500 household in Kampung Sungai Dedap.
"We like to caution people to check the goods for their expiry dates," Mahfuz later told a press conference at Padang Lumat.
Mahfuz also warned of food poisoning, reminding the locals of the recent incident where some 60 people were affected by a meal at a wedding feast in Tanjung Dawai, Sungai Petani, in September.
