Was Rosmah patriotic when flying solo on private jet?

YOURSAY 'We are not interested about your electricity bill. We are interested about your wife and you jetting around the world in a private jet.'

PM: Would you prefer I dine by candlelight?

your say, Yoursay Louis: Patriotism? PM Najib Razak, you are least qualified to be called a patriot. A patriot will give his all to the nation, be it money, time or service. Lately your expenditure speaks otherwise.

A patriot will never allow his wife to travel at the country's expense on her private business. A patriot will not bask himself so much luxury to the extend of using RM2.2 million a year on electricity for his official residence.

A patriot will make sure that traitors of the country face the music and in BN there are many, especially those who plunder the country's wealth. In this aspect you fail miserably.

Based on these few facts, you are least qualified to be called a patriot. Yes, there are many patriots, but definitely not in Umno-BN.

2zzzxxx: We are not interested about your electricity bill. We are interested about your wife and you jetting around the world in a personal jet.

We are interested about you and your wife spending RM470,000 of the rakyat's money flying in the government-funded jet for every trip.

We are interested to know why your wife get to use the jet when she is not the rakyat's representative.

Versey: Mr PM, how about those who plunder the country's coffer, abuse taxpayers' money and the power mandated to them, are they patriotic?

How about those who neglected their duties and could not account for the loss of guns and patrol cars but giving away silly excuses like dropping them into the sea ?

What should be the appropriate definition given to such people in this country?

Hajile Leumas: I am ashamed and very disappointed that Najib is an old boy of St John's Institution (SJI) because his response was kind of stupid and emotional and unbecoming of a St John's old boy.

Frankly, it would take the running of all the air conditioning and lights in Seri Perdana 24 x 7 x 365 days in a year to chalk up such an obscene electricity bill. Don't tell me Najib hosted 365 heads of governments last year.

Najib should stop making stupid statements like his deputies, IGP (inspector-general of police) and all of his other generals in BN and Umno.

Kee Thuan Chye: Don't be so dramatic, Najib, and go to the extreme. Eat by candlelight, indeed! That's schoolboy talk.

If you were a true statesman, you would instead say that parts of Seri Perdana should be shut down since they are not in constant use and maintaining them would be like pouring money down the drain.

In the first place, Dr Mahathir Mohamad should not have aspired to be a pharaoh by building such a big residence for the prime minister. It's way too big for the political leader of a small country. So get wise, trim it down.

Bernard Phillips: Minister in the PM's Department Shahidan Kassim must be talking through his songkok if he thinks the electricity bill is among the cheapest for the official residence of a head of state.

RM2.2 million a year is absurdly high and I am sure it is not just for hosting banquets for heads of state. Having just heard how the ‘first lady' Rosmah Mansor's travels, I don't think I would be wrong to suggest that she would probably be hosting private dinners at the venue as well.

And what seminars could possibly be held there unless it was Umno-related. So why should taxpayers pay the bills? The auditor-general should carry out a full audit of these bills and I am sure the results would be revealing.

Oh Ya?: So Rosmah flying solo for personal trips is also a necessity and unavoidable?

The ruling elite has been in government for too long and they are totally out of touch with the plight of the people. It is necessary and unavoidable that they be booted out as soon as possible.

Onyourtoes: Najib, what are you ranting about really? We have plenty of revenues - from oil and gas, corporate and personal income taxes, RPGT (real property gains tax), excise, sales and service taxes, royalties, gaming taxes, rates, licences and fees and dividends from investment due to past savings, et cetera - but where did the bulk of the money go?

How much was really spent on the people and how much was actually squandered away?

When news like opulent lifestyle and lavish spending were splashed across the media, how do you justify your call for patriotism and sacrifice among the people.

Don't test the resolve of the people by constantly ignoring the glaring malfeasance highlighted each day. It is time for you and your government account for the spending before you tell us to sacrifice further.

I think Malaysians are general patriotic and are willing to sacrifice a little for the overall good of the country. Indeed, Najib has completely lost touch with reality. He can't feel the pulse of the nation anymore. He has no clue of the frustration and despondency of the people.

King Louis XVI and his ‘First Lady' Marie Antoinette would have done better.

Najib's version of changing his lifestyle
