Najib’s family members, too, should change their lifestyle
YOURSAY 'Rosmah’s son Riza Aziz, 36, must have saved his pocket money of RM10,000 per day everyday for the last 30 years...’.
'Najib's family living beyond means warrants MACC probe'
Ferdtan:
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate? You must be joking. They will say this is beyond their jurisdiction as the RM110 million condominium in New York was purchased overseas.
Whether we have an anti-corruption agency or not, it makes no difference to the country; the country have already been plundered with impunity.
We should dissolved the MACC and let the police work harder to take over the role. Not that the police are any better but at least the country can save a few billions of ringgit in salaries of these non-performing officers.
Kim Quek: A prime minister’s stepson with no entrepreneurship background suddenly pops up to spend hundreds of millions in the purchase of a super condo and in bankrolling Hollywood movies - that is surefire explosive news that is guaranteed to hit the roof and potentially bring a government down in any democracy.
But Malaysia is not a democracy, so don’t expect anything dramatic to happen. In fact, just watch for how the local mass media and MACC would react, and you will have a fairly good idea how authoritarian this country is.
P Dev Anand Pillai: MACC is under the thumb of the PM, so certain individuals are immune. That is the unwritten law.
MACC is to keep the poor politicians and civil servants as obedient serfs in the land of endless possibilities. So it is useless to keep harping that they are of no use, because they are actually of no use at all.
We are experts at creating departments and jobs for all our unemployable people. Nothing will change until the Malays themselves wake up. The 'cookie jar' at the Treasury is slowly being depleted, soon there will be very little left, perhaps only then they may realise.
Oh Ya?: Batu MP Tian Chua, this is Bolehland. Apa-apa pun boleh in the name of NEP (New Economic Policy).
Which ruling elites' families are not living beyond their means? Bolehland may need to build another 100 super prisons if MACC is really independent and free to act.
Kawak: If the MACC is truly independent, they should not only investigate the PM for being a public officer living beyond his means but should investigate all members of parliament and state assemblypersons who spent more than their earnings.
Under Section 36 of the MACC Act, the commission can prosecute public officers who live beyond their means if they could not explained their source of funds for the extra expenditure.
Meh: This is why we must have a truly independent MACC not under the control of the attorney-general or PM who knows that so long as they have the MACC under their thumb, they can continue to plunder the country.
Minister in the PM’s Department Paul Low, over to you.
Cala: As long as Najib is sitting on the ‘dragon’ chair, there is nothing MACC can do against him. MACC, after all has to answer to him on daily basis.
The best form of response from Najib to Tian Chua (on the suspicious origin of fund for Riza Shahriz Abdul Aziz to have purchased RM110 million condominium in New York) is an elegant silence.
In an autocratic regime where informational flow is slow, proof of abuse of power by the ruling elites takes time (Acemoglu and Robinson, 2012).
But do we seriously expect the truth to surface in this RM110 million investment?
Siang Malam: MACC chief Abu Kassim once promised he will resign if big corruption cases are not investigated. How now, Abu Kassim?
Hermit: This gem, Riza Aziz, is no joke for he is reaching stardom for which Malaysians indeed must be proud of.
This successful young Malaysian is now bankrolling the Hollywood through his company, the Red Granite.
He is planning to produce three to four films yearly, with at least one a tentpole film with mega budget.
He is definitely no ‘jaguh kampong’ for he has managed to rope in directors such as Martin Scorsese, Alexandre Aja and Park Chan-wook into his pictures stable. Salute to the sparkling gem, which must come from mama.
Running_man: Riza, 36, must have saved his pocket money of RM10,000 per day everyday for the last 30 years...
Kingfisher: As long as the majority of rural Malay voters remain uninformed/unmoved on relevant matters and some within the establishment remain indifferent to the alleged abuses of ordinary citizens, perhaps these transgressions are actually condoned in the prevailing morality fabric of Malaysian culture.
SpongeBob: Perkasa, this is the best opportunity to put pressure on MACC to take action on the Umno president and replace the corrupted party.
Ibrahim Ali, you will never get another golden opportunity like this for your organisation. What's keeping you?
